The Smoky Mountain Center Board of Directors is responsible for collaborative,
comprehensive planning, budgeting, and the implementation, and monitoring of
community-based mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance abuse
services. The Board appoints an Area Director and establishes policy guidelines
for the Area Director to execute the agency in such a way that meets the diverse
needs of the community.
Board membership includes representatives from county government, consumers, family
members, community leaders, as well as professionals in health and human service
related fields. Each of the 15 counties served by SMC has one at-large member and
one county commissioner member. In addition, each of the three regions served by SMC;
south, north and central, as well as the Qualla Boundary have an additional advisory
member appointment.
