General Statement of the Job :
|
|
The Emergency Services Specialist is a professional position that provides critical emergency services for the Area Program. Functions include; emergency mental health and substance abuse assessments, telephonic and face-to-face screening/triage/referral, crisis intervention, hospital diversion, intake for the Balsam Center Adult Recovery Unit and Behavioral Health Unit located at Haywood Regional Medical Center, involuntary commitment exams, and State Hospital and Detox authorization.

Essential Job Functions :
|
|
This position will respond to requests for mental health and substance abuse services from all ages and disability groups within the SMC system, assess and intervene as appropriate, determine level of care, and link clients to appropriate services. This position will work after hours, weekend, and holiday shifts as needed. Position will require three (3) scheduled 12.5 hr shifts each week. Required to work 160 hr in a four-week period. During working hours, this position provides clinical triage for routine, urgent, and emergent service requests, and assists with linking clients to appropriate outpatient, residential and inpatient services. This position provides emergency face-to-face assessments in a community setting.

Minimum Training and Qualifications :
|
|
LCSW or LCAS preferred but will consider other licensed or provisionally licensed clinical staff depending upon experience. Requires annual TB screening (PPD skin test), Physical, and Medical Records Training. Pre-employment drug trust will be conducted.
|
|
Physical Requirements :
|
|
Must be physically able to operate a variety of office machines, tools and equipment; such as the telephone, computer, typewriter, copier, facsimile, etc. Must be able to use body members to work, move, or carry objects/materials. Must be able to exert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to ten pounds of force frequently.
|
|
Knowledge of Job :
|
|
Experience in emergency services, inpatient, crisis stabilization or substance abuse treatment strongly preferred. Knowledge of general mental health and substance abuse best practices, and ethical guidelines of profession. Specific knowledge of emergency psychiatric assessment and referral, crisis intervention, risk assessment, and psychiatric consultation. Knowledge of DSM IV and diagnostic assessment. Thorough knowledge of social work principles, techniques, and practices, and their application to complex casework, group work, and psychosocial problems and their treatment. Considerable knowledge of family and group dynamics and a range of intervention techniques. Considerable knowledge of governmental and private organizations and resources in the community. Considerable knowledge of the laws, regulations, and policies which govern the program. General knowledge of the methods and principles of casework supervision and based on medical or psychological diagnosis.

Salary :

Grade/Step is determined by qualifications and experience of candidate. Position is full time with comprehensive benefits. Position is exempt from overtime.
